In short: HubSpot's AI is billed per action, not per user. Your plan includes monthly credits that reset and do not roll over, overage credits are listed at 0.010 US dollars each, a Customer Agent resolution costs 50 credits and a recommended lead costs 100. Since October you can cap spend by account, by feature and by action.
On October 15, 2026 HubSpot announced three changes to how AI gets budgeted inside the CRM: an account-level spend cap, credit caps per feature and per action, and the option to swap seats for credits mid-contract (CMSWire, October 15, 2026). Below is the full arithmetic, with the date attached to every number.
This is not a large-enterprise problem. In August 2026 we measured the stack of 105 B2B technology companies in Latin America and 57 already had HubSpot, which is 54 percent. For most of the companies we talk to, the question is no longer whether to buy HubSpot. It is what it costs to turn on what is already inside.
Credits pay for the usage-based features: Customer Agent, Prospecting Agent, Data Agent and Data Studio syncs. They are consumed only when an action actually runs, for example a Breeze action inside a workflow. Seat-based accounts get a monthly allotment tied to their highest subscription tier; the examples in HubSpot's own documentation are 3,000 credits for Marketing Hub Professional and 5,000 for Enterprise, and the exact number for each plan lives in its products catalog.
The detail that changes how you budget is this: credits reset every month and whatever you did not use is gone. There is no pool that carries into your good quarter, so a badly scheduled pilot wastes credits in January and runs short in March (HubSpot knowledge base, September 16, 2026).
In April 2026 HubSpot moved two agents to outcome-based pricing. Customer Agent went from 1.00 dollar per conversation to 0.50 dollars per resolved conversation, which is 50 credits. Prospecting Agent went from a recurring monthly charge for every enrolled contact to 1.00 dollar per lead recommended for outreach, which is 100 credits. Both are available on Pro and Enterprise with a 28-day trial (HubSpot, April 13, 2026).
With those two numbers the math fits on a napkin. If your plan includes 3,000 credits a month and you spend them all on Prospecting Agent, that is 30 recommended leads; all on Customer Agent, 60 resolved conversations. For a team of five or six reps that is enough to run a pilot, not enough to run the whole pipeline. It is exactly the calculation worth doing before you promise that AI will handle everything.
When credits run out, one of two things happens. Without capacity packs, usage-based features pause until the next reset or until you buy one. With packs, the account follows one of two settings: auto-upgrade, which moves you to the next pack for the rest of your commitment term, or pay-as-you-go, which charges per credit used above your limit and returns you to the original limit on the reset date. Pay-as-you-go is the default for packs bought on or after September 16, 2026.
The overage credit is listed at 0.010 dollars, billed monthly in arrears, in increments of 10 credits rounded down, on a separate invoice. Two things worth writing into your internal documentation: only Super Admins and Billing Admins can turn overages on, and the account spend limit defaults to 50 percent above total monthly credits, so 8,000 monthly credits gives you a 12,000 ceiling.
The October 15 announcement does not lower the price, it lowers the uncertainty, which for a 10 to 300 person company is usually the real blocker. You can now keep the account cap, add credit caps per feature and per action, move seats to credits mid-term, and choose between prepaid credit packs at a flat monthly rate or pay-as-you-go that charges when the work completes.
Translated into a buying decision: you can pilot an agent under a ceiling you set, instead of betting the quarter on consumption behaving well. The discipline that stays on your side is deciding, before you turn anything on, which action is worth the credit. An agent that recommends 100 leads against a dirty database still charges you the 100 dollars, and at that point the price was not the problem.
And do not confuse the two layers: credits pay for AI actions, seats still pay for people's access. The table puts both together, with the date of each number.

| Prospecting Agent | Per recommended lead | 1.00 USD · 100 credits | HubSpot, Apr 13 2026 |
| Account spend limit | Default once you buy packs | 50% above monthly credits | HubSpot KB, Sep 16 2026 |
| Sales seat | Monthly, billed annually | 9 USD Starter · 90 USD Professional | Our own price check, Sep 10 2026 |

If you already did the math and the number does not add up, it is rarely a rate problem: it is that nobody defined which process the agent will run, or on what data. A review of properties, stages and permissions is worth more than negotiating the price of a credit, and it takes days. You can see how we work on that in our RevOps Assessment, or read why we charge for the assessment. And if what you suspect is that the pipeline is not ready for anyone, human or agent, to update it on its own, the starting point is how your stages are defined.

No. Credits reset every month and whatever you did not use lapses at the end of the period instead of carrying forward. That is why it pays to schedule AI pilots for the months you will actually run them, rather than assuming an annual pool spreads itself across good and slow seasons.
It is listed at 0.010 dollars and billed in arrears, in increments of 10 credits rounded down, on an invoice separate from your subscription. Only Super Admins and Billing Admins can enable overage billing, so it is worth checking who holds those roles in your portal today.
Yes. Since the October 15, 2026 announcement the swap can be done self-service mid-contract, without waiting for the renewal date. It helps when you bought seats for a team that grew differently than planned and what you are short on is AI capacity, not access.
